SPATIAL is a Port Moody BC, based ceramic and design studio emphasis on abstract art patterns, compositional elements such as lines, shapes, textures and negative space, created by ceramic artist & graphic designer Ysabella Choung.
Ysabella enjoys exploring patterns and colours which give her joy. Her ceramic art experience allows her to fulfill her creative need in three-dimensional form and tactile needs, while her graphic design experience allows her to use the paper-cut patterns added the illusion of depth created by the combination of texture/colour/patterns, all based on the basic principles of form and design. Each piece she creates is handmade and, by its very nature, a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Hand-building basics with clay (8 weeks) – $350.
Classes are taught once a week for 2.5 hours each and run for eight weeks. No experience is necessary for the beginner classes. All of our classes are private and, as a result, there is plenty of opportunity for individual attention.
This class gives an in-depth look at the following main techniques: pinching, coiling, slabbing as well as colouring and glazing. Attention is given to the sculptural as well as the functional aspects of pottery; students are self-directed with more one-on-one instruction.
Prices of all classes include basic tools and glazes as well as the firing of your creations. Clay sold separately.
SPATIAL Ceramic Studio rents open studio time to potters, with some prior experience, for independent work. If you would like to work on your own in the studio please tell us about your experience with pottery. If you are experienced enough, we will give you an Open Studio membership. If you have no experience at all with clay we recommend that you take the equivalent of 4-6 months of pottery classes before working on your own in the studio.
- Becoming a Studio Potter means working on your own, without help or guidance and at your own pace.
- Price packages for Open Studio Time vary depending on the time you commit per week.
- Studio time sessions expire 6 months from the date of purchase.
- The hours must fit within the normal operating hours of the studio.
- Open studio space is only available for rental in between class sessions and events.
